| review: Newtonian Reflector Bresser 3 inch ( appr. € 45,- ) |
The Bresser 3" is a typical warehouse telescope for cheapest price.
Like all of these products, the value for astronomical use is very limited.
It was my starting telescope but now I know, I should have bought a binocular for the money instead. This 'scope' is a pure toy.
The Bresser comes on a wooden tripod which is quit stable but performance is totally ruined by the alt-az mounting.
This mounting is so loose that the telescope can not even be fixed on a huge object like the moon without drifting, shaking and losing the object from field of view.
The main optic is a 3" parabolic mirror of minor quality.
For a f/8 3" reflector it is typical that the diagonal mirror covers too much of the main mirror to give pictures with high contrast.
The obstruction is further incresed by the fact that the diagonal mirror is smaller than it's spider mount.
The 1" draw tube of the focuser itself is made from aluminum and astonishing precise. Focusing was quit smooth.
The eye-pieces are made using plastic lenses of the cheapest kind. The design is unknown to me but it has only 2 lenses.
So there is not much correction - but with plastic lenses there is no use for that anyway. Eye relief and size of view are terrible.
